The update process in IoT devices is a hectic and non-standardized process. Different vendors use their own protocols for updating their IoT devices firmware. The update mechanisms are either buggy or lack the basic security requirements whereas certain vendors do not even provide a facility of OTA update. Researchers have contributed several methods to update the firmware of IoT devices automatically but the versatility of IoT devices makes it difficult to standardize the solution. Our idea is to come up with a standardized and secure update mechanism based on the resourcefulness of IoT devices. The solution will also test the firmware for any security shortcomings.
