Title of Workshop : J2ME Application development using open source tools
Presenter :
Wasif Tanveer, Al-Khwarizmi Institute of Computer Science, UET, Lahore
Description :
In computing, the Java Platform, Micro Edition or Java ME (previously known as Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition or J2ME) is a specification of a subset of the Java platform. It is aimed at providing a certified collection of Java APIs for the development of small, resource-constrained devices such as cell phones, PDAs and set-top boxes. Due to the ever increasing scope of this platform it is necessary to be aware of its basic and enterprise development techniques. This workshop is intended towards the understanding of the basics of J2ME, its applications, architecture and usefulness. J2ME development demonstration using open source tools like Net-beans IDE shall be covered during the workshop.
Title of Workshop : An Introduction to Service-Oriented Architecture from a Java Developer Perspective
Presenter :
Imran Sarwar / Qanita Ahmad, Al-Khwarizmi Institute of Computer Science, UET, Lahore
Description :
Service-oriented architecture (SOA) is a hot topic in enterprise computing because many IT professionals see the potential of an SOA -- especially a web services-based SOA -- in dramatically speeding up the application development process. They also see it as a way to build applications and systems that are more adaptable, and in doing so, they see IT becoming more agile in responding to changing business needs. Not only is SOA a hot topic, but it's clearly the wave of the future. In the intended workshop, we intend to cover a brief overview to SOA from a Java developer perspective and examine the technologies available in the Java space to build service-oriented applications. Basic guidelines shall be covered that can help bootstrap for the development of first service-oriented application using Netbeans IDE 6.0 with REST as the invocation interface.
Title of Workshop : Introducing Java Authentication and Authorization Service in Enterprise Applications
Presenter :
Farzeen Abass, Al-Khwarizmi Institute of Computer Science, UET, Lahore
Description :
Protecting sensitive data and data transportation is a preliminary but critical requirement for enterprise application developers. Java EE comes with a mature security model that provides features for security issues supported by all application servers. Security services in Java EE enable developers to build strong and elaborate protections for their applications with minimum effort. JAAS (Java Authentication and Authorization Service) is one of the security mechanisms provided by Java SE. JAAS being an integral part of Java security frame work, serves the purpose of authentication and authorization of users. Our agenda includes a brief overview of JAAS, how it implements authorization and authentication and the mechanism for its integration in enterprise applications.
