AMPLITUDE MODULATION

Amplitude modulation is a form of modulation in which information is carried in the envelop of the carrier. Mathematically, it can be written as

There are different types of amplitude modulation (i) Amplitude Modulation Suppressed Carrier (AM-SC) (ii) Amplitude Modulation with Carrier (AM-C) (iii) Amplitude Modulation with Single Sideband (AM-SSB). Figure 1 below shows a segment of speech signal and its corresponding amplitude modulated signal.

At the end of this experiment, students are encouraged to carry out practical observations by varying modulation index and carrier frequency at the transmitter.
