3- Project Title: Load Forecasting System for Pakistan WAPDA
Funding: ICT R&D FUND

Description:

Electric Energy Load Forecasting research for Pakistan WAPDA is being carried out at AL-KICS, UET Lahore, to develop a load forecasting system for WAPDA. Recent years have increased the demand for such a system that can predict future energy loads, which is a very important component for energy management. We are interested in developing a self learning, adaptive, transparent, intelligent decision making system that can forecast short term, medium term and long term energy requirement,

Load forecasting has always been important for economics of electrical supply companies in terms of cost saving, planning and operational decision making. The power industry requires forecasts not only from the production side but also from a financial perspective. It is necessary to predict hourly loads as well as daily peak loads. Accurate tracking of the load at all times is a basic requirement in the operation of power systems and must be accomplished for various time intervals. Since electricity cannot be stored efficiently in large quantities, the amount generated at any given time must cover all of the demand from consumers as well as line losses. Forecasts of the load are used to decide whether extra generation must be provided by increasing the output of online generators, by committing one or more extra units, or by the interchange of power with neighboring systems. Similarly, forecasts are used to decide whether the output of an already running generation unit should be decreased or switched off, which is determined by generation control functions, such as scheduling, unit-commitment, coordination, and interchange evaluation.

4- Project Title: Invoice Processing Automation System (EMIS)
Client: CPPA, NTDC WAPDA Pakistan.
URL: http://www.ntdc.com.pk
Duration: Jan 2006 to Present
Platform: Windows 2000 Advanced Server/XP/2003 Enterprise Server

Description:
The IPAS is an Enterprise Management Information System being design and architecture for the CPPA, NTDC, WAPDA Pakistan. Under the Policy for Power Generation Projects, 2002 announced by the Government of Pakistan, NTDC has developed a new Standard Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the upcoming power projects. This new regime for projects came to surface which now revolves around the Availability Based, Data Processing and Invoicing System. In order to support this new regime of PPA, there is a demand identified for Data Processing and Invoice Processing Automation System (IPAS), which is an Enterprise Management Information System (EMIS). The objective is to implement the Rules and Regulations specified in the Standard Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) by NTDC, WAPDA Pakistan and Tariff Determination by NEPRA. The system will fetch data in real time from IPPs and process
it in a central location.

The system has been designed and developed recently and now it is in implementation phase in WAPDA.

5- Project: KTAPI The Data Collection System from Power Generators and Weather Stations.
Client: CPPA, NTDC WAPDA Pakistan.
URL: http://www.ntdc.com.pk
Duration: Jan 2006 to Present
Platform: Windows 2000 Advanced Server/XP/2003 Enterprise Server

Abstract:

This project has been developed to be an autonomous, adaptive and standalone part of Pakistan WAPDA’s energy metering and management system (EMIS). This software application collects data from meters installed on power stations and weather stations. Based on this timely reading. It support and can communicate with meters on all available communication channels (PSTN, GSM, GPRS, and IP Networks).
This data collection system queries each modem installed on all IPP’s and collects data from each meter connected to same modem and transfers recorded reading to EMIS central database. Other supporting features are installation of modems, remote configurations of modems/meters, dynamic selection of communication medium, error recovery and fault tolerance.

6- Project Title: Automated Meter Reading (MIS)
Client: Syed Bhais, Pakistan.
URL: http://www.syedbhais.com
Duration: Apr 2005 to Dec 2006
Platform: Windows 2000 Advanced Server/XP/2003 Enterprise Server

Description:
WAPDA intends to arrange for a remote system capable of measuring electricity consumption/customer usage, besides generating all other information and data needed to run its specific MIS, without those glitches inherent to the existing normal system. The system also plans to control the administrative losses i.e. pilferage, theft and stealing of energy, constricted recording due to improper installation of energy meters, by-passing of the same and other such internal and external features. The ‘AMR-API’ provides an application layer to communicate with meters using GSM unit "Telit GM862-GPRS through micro controller ATMEL 89C52 Series. Using API, MIS can access meter parameters. The connectivity is provided using SMS. MIS can send short message request to meters individually and in response to the request meters reply with short message which is decoded by the API and required parameters are returned to the MIS. The JSF/J2EE based MIS includes implementation of the Existing Commercial Procedures for WAPDA. Also User Management, Equipment Management and Management of Tariff Categories are the integral parts of MIS.

7- Project Title: EMV-3-Phase Electronic Vector Meter
Software.
Client: Syed Bhais, Pakistan.
URL: http://www.syedbhais.com
Duration: Jul 2005 to Sep 2005
Platform: Windows XP

Description:
Configuration software for 3-Phase electronic vector meter, facilitate users with creating and applying new settings and configurations for 3-Phase vector meters. The major features provided with this software are administrating users, setting time of use of meter, setting demand metering and notifications to the meter and programming meter with these settings.

8- Project Title: Vehicle Tracking and Fleet Management
System. (UTrack)
Client: Utrack
Duration: Dec 2007
Platform: Windows XP

Description:
Vehicle Tracking Systems using electronic devices installed in vehicles enables vehicle owners or third parties to track the location, status of a vehicle and allow them to control the vehicle remotely using GSM or/and GPRS. It uses GPS modules to allow for easy and accurate location of the vehicle. It also combines a communications component such as cellular or satellite transmitters to communicate the vehicle’s location to a remote user. Vehicle information can be viewed on electronic maps via the Internet by this specialized software.

9- Real Time Data proceesing System of CDPs (Common
Delivery Points) for WAPDA

Client: CPPA, NTDC WAPDA Pakistan.
URL: http://www.ntdc.com.pk
Duration: Year 2008
Platform: Windows 2000 Advanced Server/XP/2003
Enterprise Server
(Work is in progress)

The basic objective of this system is monitor energy consumption, power load at common delivery points. This will help for the management of load and keep an eye on DISCOs.
