Sequence Analysis Tool (SSAT): An Analysis Tool for Sugars

The project aims to develop an analysis tool for the sugars attached to proteins on the basis of sugar residues, linkage between the sugar moieties and their anomery. A number of data repositories are available for the storage of sugar sequences. Some of them are publically available, e.g., KEGG, O-GlycoBase, GlycoEpitope, CarbBank, CCSD etc. Some of them are commercially available like the GlycoSuiteDB relational database. All the existing repositories are for sugar and they are based on the structure of oligosaccharide chains and their functions. But they fail to give the detailed information regarding sequence of the sugar residues, linkage between the sugar moieties and their anomery.

The primary objective of this project is to find out an applicable method to get accumulate and useful information regarding sugar sequences, linkage between the sugar moieties and their anomery, and to develop an analysis tool based on that accumulate abd useful information. This tool will help the biologist to align the biologically significant oligosaccharides with respect to their sequences, linkages and anomery and will predict the possible changes in normal and pathological conditions.
