A Talk on Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Takes Place in KICS UET Lahore
IoT Lab of KICS UET Lahore arranged a talk on ‘Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)’ in Seminar Hall at KICS, University of Engineering and Technology Lahore on 4th August 2017. The speaker of the event was Dr. Muhammad Moeen from USA. He is a UET’s graduate and earned the engineering degree in Electronics/communications engineering in 2000. Mr. Moeen did his Masters in Communications and Signals Processing from London in 2002 later did PhD in Control Engineering from Imperial College, London. He has been working within engineering organization of Schlumberger in various engineering and management positions related to New Product Development since 2007. For last one year or so, he has been working towards identifying technology building blocks and platforms to facilitate adoption and deployment of Industrial IoT (IIoT) solutions across all product lines within Schlumberger in an effort to digitally transform oil field services operations.
The number of internet connected devices is expected to reach 30 billion by 2020. This exponential rise in number of connected devices is set to transform businesses in consumer space as well as industrial space. Use of internet connected industrial devices, termed as, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), is being adopted by several enterprises across all major industrial sectors to revolutionize their businesses.
Therefore, this talk focused on the identification of the need of IIoT being taken by the industry today. The talk made it clear that the industry today understood the importance of IIoT. It also delivered the examples from various industrial verticals demonstrating the impact IIoT was making in creating the value for their businesses. It also highlighted the end-to-end IIoT solutions and key characteristics.
Researchers and faculty members took keen interest in this specially designed talk that benefited them in entirety.
