Library Management System Group

About LMS

Library Management System (LMS) group is the part of Software System Research Laboratory (SSRL). This group is committed to empower libraries and librarians of the world to create learning and research environment. We are the leader in Open Source solutions for Libraries in Pakistan with multi-lingual support for Koha, a web-based Integrated Library System (ILS).

ILS is an enterprise resource planning software dedicated for libraries. It tracks items acquired and owned, bills paid, catalogue searching and borrower or patron detail. This software usually comprised of two different graphical user interfaces one for staff and other for patrons known as Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). An ILS must be comprised of following modules.

  • Cataloging
  • Serial
  • Acquisition
  • Circulation

Rather than selling software licenses for proprietary, static and hard-to-customize software products, we are informing libraries about the open source and enabling them to better use of open source ILS. Open source ILS not only reduce cost of running software for each library but also empowers them with higher level of control for customization and development. We offer various services to libraries and our outstanding commercial support services include ILS hosting, data migration support, staff training, software maintenance, development and customizations according to the requirements of each potential client.

Objectives of LMS group are:

  • To conduct training programs for librarians so as to help them to develop, update and automate their libraries and documentation centers.
  • To develop library automation and capacity building programs.
  • To coordinate library development activities in the country with national as well as international development agencies and institutions.
  • To provide information and conduct research studies on library development.
