Seminar on energy situation in Pakistan in an international context was organized in collaboration with mining engineering department UET, Lahore and Center for energy research and development (CERAD) on April 10th 2015.The basic purpose of this seminar was to have an understanding of the energy distribution and utilization in Pakistan in an international perspective and the way forward.
Dr.Ansar shakoor who has 20 years of experience in energy sector across various regions of the world in his talk highlighted various challenges faced by Different energy sectors of Pakistan .He did not only highlight the problems but also impressed upon the importance of the strengths of Pakistan i.e. Pakistan is blessed with large energy sources potential that has low levelised cost, sector experience and availability of skilled human resource, geographical location of Pakistan, being a developing nation we have certain opportunities of energy infrastructure development and developing regulation and standards.
Moreover, he shared his approach for an improvement in Pakistan's energy sector i.e forward planing,avoiding expensive options for crisis management, energy governance and policy. Making use of economic sources, promoting community based projects.at the end he concluded his talk with few suggestions that there must be more exploration for indigenous oil and gas resources, believing in own strengths and their smart deployment, making existing system more efficient through loss control and asset management and research in identifying challenges and risks and finding indigenous innovative solutions. Audience consisting of faculty and students from various departments of UET showed their keen interest in the seminar and participated actively in the Q & A session at the end.
Chief guest of the occasion, honorable Vice Chancellor UET Dr.Fazal Ahmad Khalid shared few words with the audience and he gave away a shield to the guest speaker(Dr.Ansar Shakoor).
